Project Overview
Comprehensive landslide inventory mapping for Arunachal Pradesh using advanced satellite technology and field verification.
Mission Statement
The SILAAS project aims to create a comprehensive, post-monsoon landslide inventory for Arunachal Pradesh using cutting-edge satellite imagery, Digital Elevation Models, and GIS technology, enabling better disaster preparedness and risk mitigation strategies.
Project Objectives
Landslide Inventory
To prepare landslide inventory for post monsoon 2023 of Arunachal Pradesh using HR satellite data & DEM.
Ground Verification
To carry out ground verification of landslides using FLIM mobile app.
Database Generation
To generate a detailed database on landslides occurred during 2023.

Methodology
Data Acquisition
Acquisition of high-resolution satellite datasets (Resourcesat-2A LISS-IV Mx) and CartoDEM for the entire state.
Pre-processing & Analysis
Geometric correction, layer stacking, and DEM-based terrain analysis to derive slope, aspect, and relief.
Landslide Identification
Visual interpretation of Pre and Post-monsoon satellite imagery in a GIS environment to identify and delineate landslides.
Field Verification
On-ground verification of identified landslides using the FLIM mobile application to collect attributes and photographs.
Database Generation
Compilation of verified data into a comprehensive geodatabase with detailed attributes for each landslide (new/old, area, etc.).
Key Results of 2023
Total Landslides Mapped
Comprehensive mapping of new and reactivated landslides across all 25 districts of Arunachal Pradesh for the year 2023.
20,43,610 meter square
Located in Dibang & Lower Dibang Valley
140.80 meter square
Located in Pakke-Kessang district
655 Events
Recorded in Pakke-Kessang district
Most of the larger landslides are old and have been reactivated during the monsoon season. Field verification has also been done.
